Saving you money
In September 2015 we launched the Innovation Fund, where local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups, were invited to apply for funding that was awarded in the form of transport credits. These credits could then be used to book minibus transport (through Westway CT) during down-time periods.
The hope was that the Innovation Fund would encourage new and existing members to introduce new innovative projects and activities for their users, that take place during the slower part of the day between 10am - 2.30pm, or after 6.30pm weekdays and anytime at weekends.
£20,000 was set aside for this award. This funding was specifically available to new emerging community groups based in Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham. It was also available to existing member organisations and could be used towards transport costs for new innovative projects and activities.
While applications were open to all community and charitable organisations, we particularly welcomed applications from organisations working with young people.
In the first round of awards, at least 7 applicants were awarded with transport credits of up to £5,000 each and while all local community and charitable organisations are encouraged to apply in the second round, we hope to receive apllications from sections of the community that are underrepresented across our membership and specifically from those that serve younger people.
‘We believe that the Innovation Fund is a great incentive to change the booking habits of our members, by getting them to think ‘outside of the box’ and create new opportunities for the local community, at different times of the day. We are looking forward to finding out about the new projects that we hope will emerge from the second round. It is important in these days where money is tight, that we make the most use of our resources while meeting the demands of our members’, says Andrew Kelly, Westway CT’s Director.
In September 2016 we launched the second round and groups were invited to apply for funds of up to £1,000 towards transport costs. If your group has a turnover of less than £250,000. 7 Organisations have been awarded funds.

What do our customers say?
This is the first time that young people have engaged in trampolineing in this way and they had a wonderful time. This trip would have not been possible if it wasn’t for the Innovation Fund as the young people travelled to the venue via Westway minibus services.
I just wanted to say thanks for organising the taxi last night and how great Adebe is. Your drivers are always lovely but he was especially helpful and it’s always so reassuring to know our members are being looked after.

A taxi from the station to the farm is over £10 and this alone is a price many parents cannot afford. Having access to the Innovation fund has meant that we can support with the cost of transport, meaning the parents can access this opportunity and keep their money for buying fruit when they are there.

The Innovation Fund has been of a great benefit to Lunch Club+ 4 The Bind. We have been on about 4 shopping trips - and counting this coming Saturday - 2 seaside trips

It is so liberating to be able to get about again and be truly independent. I cannot thank those running the scheme enough.
Kevin Foster was professional, knowledgeable, patient and understanding. His friendly and chatty demeanour took away any anxiety we may have felt about learning a new skill. Highly recommend Kevin to any potential students/organisations.

I am writing to personally thank you for all of the support Westway CT provided in helping deliver Christmas Hampers to elderly residents in Westminster. I know the task became more challenging than originally expected, however Richard Yeatman and his team were flexible, responsive and a pleasure to work with.

From the minute I walked into Westway CT I knew it was the place for me. The people are lovely, I was supported all the way through my training (although it was relatively easy after the HGV training) and I was able to do volunteering work and gain some experience and confidence whilst hoping for paid employment.
