Across London thousands of local groups and organisations, schools and community centres show how much they love their community through the support and refuge they offer to people who feel alone, isolated, and disconnected.
Valentine’s Day is the universal symbol of love so we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the selflessness volunteers and organisations demonstrate every day of the year as they work to keep their communities connected and included.
Last week we helped two residents attend the Age UK Kensington & Chelsea Valentine’s Day musical event at Holy Trinity Brompton Church in Onslow Square. Ms P and Ms M, who is partially blind rely on Westway CT for travel, without it living independently would be a struggle and attending concerts off the agenda.
Ms M said, ’It was very nice to get out of the house and enjoy some relaxing time in the company of other people’.
Westway CT sees the work of local groups and individuals first-hand and is proud to support them. Our commitment to keeping communities together is delivered every day. We work across three London boroughs helping residents to stay connected so they can meet friends, learn new skills, eat with others, and stay warm. Our staff and volunteer drivers make what we do possible, planning routes and supporting those less able to travel on mainstream transport.
Kathleen Lyons, CEO of Westway CT said; “We see how local groups and volunteers make the places where we live, work for us. The sense of community is woven into what we all do and we’re proud to make a difference to the lives of so many people. Access and inclusion is vital for any community, helping individuals to feel safe and independent, we make sure that they have what they need to get to where they want to be.”
Westway CT is a non – profit social enterprise that makes travel possible and affordable for community groups and individuals, helping them access the services and activities that matter to them. Our vehicles and drivers are relied upon by community groups, and our goods vans provide vital connections ensuring residents get what they need, whether that’s deliveries to food banks or donations to children’s centres.
As a membership organisation we offer competitive and flexible travel for people and groups across Royal Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham with our fleet of 41 minibuses, powered by a team of 60 drivers and volunteers.
