The Innovation Fund was launched in September 2015
Like many CT’s around the country, Westway CT has periods of downtime that seem to be unavoidable, periods between Home-to-School and Day Centre transport runs that seem almost impossible to utilise. Westway CT felt that resources that have been paid for through regular contract work could be better used, so faced with this dilemma decided that it was time to think of ways to encourage use during downtime periods. The management team and committee put their heads together and from a brainstorming session came up with the ‘Innovation Fund’.
The hope was that the Innovation Fund would encourage members to introduce new innovative projects and activities for their users that take place during the slower part of the day.
Westway CT set aside £20,000 for this award and groups providing community-based activities were invited to apply for transport credits of up to £5,000 each. The transport credit was specifically available to new emerging community groups based in Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham. The fund was also available to member organisations and could be used for transport costs for new innovative projects and activities.
The Innovation Fund was a success and at least seven applicants created new activity schedules for their users and all were awarded transport credits of £1,000 – £4,000.
7 applicants were awarded transport credits of up to £4,000 each:
Chelsea Theatre– awarded £3,000
Hammersmith Community Garden Association – awarded £1,500
Harrison Housing – awarded £700
Lunch Club 4 The Blind – awarded £1,000
NICOLA – awarded £3,000
The Avenues Youth Project – awarded £1,000
Westminster Children’s Centre – awarded £3,680
