WCT works with hundreds of local community groups and individuals across the borough. Together with members we help tackle many issues that impact people in our borough, from loneliness and isolation, to developing better mental health. It’s important to us to celebrate our members and what they achieve for the community. We are taking a moment to spotlight one member, Minds United FC, and their incredible new partnership with FlashPoint FC .
Both groups use football and the skills and camaraderie the game inspires to challenge poor mental health. This new partnership between Minds United FC and FlashPoint FC will help more young people in North and West London to feel better and create an official player/employment pathway for when teenagers reach 18, helping prevent serious youth violence. Congratulations, Minds United FC and Flashpoint FC; what an incredible partnership!
Our borough, Kensington & Chelsea has a population of 144,000 people where 14% (20,000) are older people over 65. There are also over 600 voluntary organisations providing lots of vital services to help a range of people including older people. We are one of those services. Community Transport is a great enabler and we help both older people with our shopper bus service and volunteer cars, as well as working with hundreds of community and voluntary groups across both our borough, and Hammersmith & Fulham, and Westminster.
Our transport and our team makes a big difference, enabling those we support to do more, whether that’s getting to the shops and living independently or helping a local charity to take their members out for the day or make it to the tournament. We go the extra mile and in doing so we help others to as well. Community is our biggest motivator, being part of it and ensuring that others have a chance to be part of it – it’s simple, our transport changes lives, and as we start a new year we’re looking forward to connecting more people, and more groups in our community to help them feel part of their community, one ride at a time.
