With the New Year we have new community transport trips underway for our shopper bus members.
Every week, on top of our supermarket sweeps our members have the choice of a weekly free excursion. We take the bus out of London’s busy streets and into more leafy enclaves like country pubs, garden centres, and historic houses like Boston Manor House. Added to our list are some new, but familiar favourites; IKEA at Wembley, The V&A, The Imperial War Museum, and Alexandra Palace. Today we’re off to the V&A!
Our members love our minibuses which seat up to 16 passengers, and their bags. We often have a passenger assistant on board to help out to. We added the trips back in 2020 after the lock down lifted, we wanted to help our members feel part of their community again after many were lost in isolation. The feedback was positive, they loved the trips so we stuck with it, and made them a regular, weekly occurrence.
For us the shopper bus has never been just about shopping, instead they are passports to community, a way to connect, talk about the weather, the news, what’s happening in the neighbourhood, and on their weekly travels bonds are built, community strengthened, and loneliness and isolation kept at bay.
Joining our community is £12 a year, you can book on to a shopper bus and or an excursion every week – you can read more about joining in here – you need to be over 50, and a resident in either RBKC or Westminster as that’s the patch we cover – but there’ll be other community transport providers if you’re out of our scope.
