Our Culture is What Makes Us – AGM 2023

September 28, 2023

Westway CT members join for the annual Westway CT AGM

Westway CT welcomed members old and new to its annual AGM on Tuesday 26 September.

The focus this year was on the culture that underpins and holds Westway CT together. Ultimately the people behind what we do and how we do it are Westway CT’s greatest asset, whether they are delivering, ‘on road’, back office or at trustee level.

All community transport providers have faced challenges over the last year, especially when it comes to driver recruitment. A changing landscape shaped by the legacy of covid and a cost of living crisis has impacted everyone, and rising to meet those challenges has taken courage, resilience, and a commitment to the shared belief of connecting people and places through the provision of safe, affordable, accessible and inclusive transport in an effort to promote stronger, healthier, greener, safer and fairer communities.

Westway CT estimated that over the course of the year its services delivered a saving to the public purse of £438,368 – a social investment calculated via the London Community Transport Social Value measurement tool. To date Westway CT is supporting 568 group members and over 200 individual members with vital transport services.

“The culture of the organisation is what binds us together and what attracts new talent, it is what keeps us relevant and responsive. This is quite possibly our USP and as such we are putting this at the heart of strengthening our foundations, staying nimble and relevant as we move forwards.”

Kathleen Lyons, CEO, Westway CT

Volunteer & Staff Awards

The AGM was also an opportunity to publicly recognise the commitment of staff and volunteers who constantly deliver above and beyond. Special awards were awarded to Mark King, Jamal Smith, Ali Mohammadzadeh and Glen Dupuis for their positive attitude, approach and team work. Westway CT also said farewell to their Treasurer of five years Nick Steventon -Pell who has been a brilliantly supportive board member.

Westway CT would also like to thank the Al- Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre for hosting our meeting and providing a fantastic lunch.
