This week’s heatwave has brought plenty of advice about staying cool, keeping hydrated and checking in on those who may be more vulnerable to the effects of hot weather.
It’s a useful reminder that community is often built through small acts of care and connection.
Checking in on a neighbour. Calling a friend. Making sure someone has what they need.
At Westway Community Transport, we see the importance of those connections every day.
For some of the older people who use our services, a journey may be one of only a handful of regular interactions they have during the week. It provides an opportunity to get out, see familiar faces, maintain routines and remain connected to community life.
The same is true of the local groups and charities we support. By providing accessible and reliable transport, we help them bring people together, deliver activities and reach those who might otherwise become isolated.
Transport is often thought of as a practical service, but it also plays an important role in maintaining the social connections that contribute to wellbeing, independence and resilience.
As temperatures rise, our drivers and volunteers continue to provide those vital connections across the borough.
Because sometimes, knowing that someone will see you, speak to you and ask how you’re doing can be just as important as the journey itself.
If we can help you or someone you know with community transport please get in touch with our friendly team on : 0208 964 4928 and take a look at the services we offer here.
