What Does Good Care Look Like For You?

July 14, 2026

Good care starts long before someone reaches a hospital or a care setting.

As we mark Good Care Month, it’s worth reflecting on what care looks like within our communities.

We often think of care in terms of professional services, but in reality it’s woven through everyday life. It’s the unpaid carer supporting a loved one, the volunteer’s time, the community groups creating opportunities for connection, and the neighbour who checks in to make sure someone’s OK.

These everyday acts of care are part of the community infrastructure that helps people remain independent, connected and well.

Community transport has an important role to play within that picture.

In the boroughs we work in – Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster we see how accessible transport enables people to get to medical appointments, shop independently, take part in community activities and maintain the routines that contribute to health and wellbeing.

The impact goes beyond transport itself. In our latest passenger survey, 62% of service users told us they had felt lonely or isolated at least some of the time before using our services. Encouragingly, 88% of those who had experienced loneliness said that travelling with us helped prevent those feelings.

Those figures remind us that care isn’t only about meeting practical needs. It’s also about creating opportunities for people to remain connected to their community, to their independence and to one another.

As one passenger told us:

“It has changed my life. It allows me to be independent.”

Care is created through partnership, compassion and a shared commitment to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate in community life.

This Good Care Month, we’re celebrating everyone who contributes to that shared effort, from professional carers and NHS colleagues to volunteers, unpaid carers, community groups and the many people whose kindness helps strengthen our communities every day.

Good care doesn’t just support individuals, it helps communities thrive.
